“Hi Adrian

…..very impressed with Larnaca airport – definitely better than Pafos.

We had a great week and got to see a part of the island that was unfamiliar to us. Would definitely go again and recommend your apartment.

Everything in resort was great – found the apartment really easily even though it was the middle of the night and hard to see any landmarks, your directions got us straight there.

Your apartment is fab, everything we needed was there – including the cool bag and ice blocks for shopping or the beach!  You have an ideal position in the complex with lovely views (fantastic to be able to see the mountains), and in the main we had the whole resort to ourselves.  We borrowed some DVD’s and a couple of brand new board games from reception which was a nice touch.

The kebab house behind the art gallery is outstanding value for money -the ‘small’ is definitely enough for most people, and we enjoyed  a game of Tavoli (backgammon) while we were waiting!  On a drive along the coast road towards Governor’s Beach (last village before) we came across a beach side play area/park with cafe and a volleyball pitch on the sand, below.  Easy to park, loads of seats in the shade and Tavoli boards dotted everywhere. Very peaceful although it is obviously used by the locals regularly.

Day we flew back lunch consisted of a fish meze at The Lake – Greek name – H Limnh – same road Ayios Theodoros Beach – we were the only none locals and most of the waiters could not speak much English. Meal was top quality in a very clean environment and cost very realistic!  Probably best meal of the trip – certainly in Gil’s view.  Lovely view with private (very small) beach too.

Where ever we go on holiday Ben enjoys go karting and we found a track on the Troodos/Nicosia road only 25 minutes away. We left a leaflet in the apartment for other visitors.  There is also one near Larnaca airport – here is the link http://www.kartingcenter.com.cy.

The local Orphanedes supermarket had everything we needed and prices were much better than we expected; some items even cheaper than home!  We do tend to over-shop and so left some additions to your store cupboard – few cans of Coke and Keo beer, breakfast cereal and tea and biscuits that we brought from home.  oh, and a Pizza and Ice cream in the freezer. We were very impressed with the milk which is as good as ours – have not found this on previous visits to Cyprus and it makes a huge difference to your cuppa!

Pervolia – as you mentioned, lovely to have a stroll around.  We went back in the evening to the little Taverna up the steps, on the corner next to the english surf bar, (left details in your apartment, but forgotten the name).  Its run by two brothers who speak outstanding english and the service was first class. They took trouble to cook Gil’s special request (he had been unwell earlier in the day and was looking for something simple), Ben had Lamb Chops and I had the homemade Moussaka.  With our drinks they brought out bread and a paste made from olives, which I have never had before, but enjoyed.  After the main course they brought out a plate of prepared fresh fruit (free) and, once we had asked for the bill, they gave us a free Brandy and local Baily’s (also free).  The cost of the meal including drinks? Just Eur35  On top of that we had great conversation and could still hear the live music coming from across the road.  Great Value.

Summary – last time we went to Cyprus – 3 years ago – everything was very pricey.  They had just changed to the Euro which seemed to have caused a bit of a price hike (same as when we went decimal – but you’re to young to remember that!).  We were pleasantly surprised how inexpensive it now is compared to the Canaries, for instance, or France. Larnaka has a very different landscape and its own appeal and we would recommend visitors to give it a try, especially for those who have tired of the Pafos scene.

We really enjoyed our week and wished we had been able to stay longer!

With Best Wishes
Anne, Gil & Ben”        5th November 2011
